Kilmelford Yacht Haven

A short drive from Oban, we arrived to be greeted with a smiling face by David the owner, the site is on the Hardstanding yard of the Yacht Haven with all the facilities you could need, the views are amazing.

Free consistent WiFi was available at all times from all pitches.

Picnic tables and benches are available for use, Free CDP, fresh water and grey waste emptying, Showers, washing machine and tumble dryers are all £1.

There is even the option of fishing from the pontoons

Great place to stay and would definitely recommend to others

£20 pn or £24 with EHU

Oban Caravan and Camping Park – Oban

We stopped here for one night after a short drive from Strone Hill CP, the road to the site is a single track road with passing places, the site is situated on a hill with Hardstanding and grass pitches some with views some blocked by trees.

£25 per night gets you hot powerful showers, clean toilets, washing rooms and external washing up areas, shop, WiFi, CDP, fresh water and drive over grey waste drain.

The site needs a little updating, the Hardstanding pitches have better views than the grass pitches which is a shame.

You will need levellers here, even with our auto levelling system we were at the limits on the front to get almost flat.

Strone Hill, Forestry Commission CP

We left Lochore and headed across to Oban, we found Loch Earn on route with a great parking place situated just by St Fillans, right by the edge that we were lucky enough to find a space to stop and have lunch

We then headed on to Strone Hill, Forestry Commission Scotland, Car Park operating the “Stay the Night” initiative.

Space for 3 Motorhome’s with no current charge ( possibly to come later on ) no facilities except a lovely short walk to a waterfall

Max 1 night with no return within 48 hours.

Lochore Meadows Country Park Aire – Lochgelly

We left the Harbour and headed over to Lochore, it was around 20 mins drive and an easy route.

The Country Park is focused around a large open water with all manner of water sports, the Aire is set back a little and has EHU and non EHU pitches, Hard gravel standing and grass.

At £12 per night for non EHU and £18 with we decided on NON, the services are situated just a way from where you park where CDP and fresh water ( very low pressure ) is available, there is no drive over grey waste so needs to be transported to the CDP area.

There are also good hot showers available for £2 between the hours of 8:30 – 9:30 & 4:30 – 5:30 from the education centre.

Lovely walks around the lake ( 2.5 hours ) or Castle ( 30 mins ) and plenty of areas to sit and watch the water sports ( or indulge )

The Kelpies

We have been to Scotland a few times now and never visited the Kelpies, heard so many people say “you need to go” so decided we would..

Parking and entry was £6 with allocated parking area for Motorhome’s next to the coaches, you could stay until 10pm when the gates close ( July 2022 )

You can stay overnight at the first car park before you enter the main Kelpies car park for £7.50 per night with no services.

Lovely walk along the canal to where the Kelpies are situated

New Lanark UNESCO Site

We stopped here to walk the waterfalls and visit the Old Mill, there is a large main car park that is quite uneven and 3 overflow car parks that are quite flat, you can either pay for 24hrs or 28days parking for cars or coaches, I paid for a coach @£5 but had to use the machine as my number plate on the app wanted to charge me £3 for cars.

I checked with the visitor centre that what i had done was ok and informed them i would like to stay over and they were very happy for me to do so. (we stayed in the flat overflow car park no2)

The Mill is amazing with so much to do including a cafe and lots of areas for kids to play.

Just adding a small addendum here: We found the actual buildings all dog Unfriendly, cafe, shops and most buildings were not accessible if you had a dog.

We walked upstream towards the hydro electric power plant through a fantastic riverside path that was very well maintained and laid out, the waterfalls were spectacular and that was without too much rain.

Follow the badger along the trail to the waterfalls

Yew Tree Farm CL – Warrington

Second stop for a visit to see our son in Manchester, bit of a strange one here, the CL could be so nice but everything is just a bit run down, too overgrown, pitches not well cared for BUT it comes with all you need, fresh water, CDP and EHU for £18 per night, not the best but for a stopover near the motorway its not bad.

The owner was very nice, had lots of information on what to do and where to go if required, cash was his preferred payment option.

Entranceway could do with a tidy up
Hardstanding is good
Toilets and hot showers available
CDP

Newton Grove CL – Banbury

Our Scotland 2022 tour is underway, only a few hours from home we found this lovely CL for a stopover, Hardstanding and grass with CDP, bins, free standing solar units, information centre and fresh water.

Hardstanding Pitch 1, with picnic tables and fire pit, logs and kindling supplied.

The owners were very nice, cost was 12.50 per night in July 2022 and i have been informed that the longer you stay the lower it gets.

Very well maintained site with great amenities, lovely quiet and dark night skys with plenty of wildlife.

Picnic bench with fire pits to use
Free standing solar units free to use, information shed with lots of info
Lots of info on what to do and where to go
Well maintained with nice cut lawns
